LIVING SKILLS EXCHANGE -
***we have an opening for a couple (or 2 who can share a bed) October 1st***
The goal of our living skills exchange program is to empower those who come here with holistic living skills and to provide an opportunity to live, grow and evolve in community. We are an educational center looking for people who have skills to offer our community in exchange for learning and experiencing what we provide.
People who exchange with us have the opportunity to learn a lot of valuable life skills during their time here, both on the land and inter-personally within the community. The farm aspect of the exchange includes learning and taking responsibility for care of the animals, gardens, and grounds. It includes processing mac nuts, harvesting, preparing and preserving some fruits and veggies, cheese, soil building & composting, planting seeds and starts, weeding, cleaning and many other farm projects including some occasional help with upkeep of structures. It may also include helping with our retreat spaces , workshops and guests.
The exchange includes assisting with farm and guest house activities about 18-20 hours a week...with additional non-farm based community time for cooking, gardening and food processing that serves the community (versus generating farm income). Folks who feel a sense of belonging and are inspired to learn and be part of a team are those who benefit the most and whom we find the most enjoyment working alongside. On the farm, a typical weekday is starting around 7:30 am with animal/garden tending, a break mid morning for breakfast, followed by a farm project then free time till afternoon animal tending starting around 3:30pm.
The exchange provides you with a place to stay (it does not include utilities which are $75 per person) and a share of food from our farm. The $75 utilities fee covers your wifi, electric, water use and other incidentals. There is additional propane for cooking which is bought communally by those sharing the exchange space. We have people contribute to this as we do not focus exclusively on income generation from the farm or exchange program and it allows people to take responsibility and ownership for the resources they use.
Overall, our intention is for the farm to be a place where individuals can join us to collaborate on living in an ecologically, socially, and spiritually conscious way. Our goals are synergy and contentment, however we understand that life is learning and growth, so sometimes we disagree and have times of stress or frustration which we see as fodder for our personal evolution as we strive for greater harmony and fulfillment. Having others as part of our community who share this holistic perspective is what we hope for, even those who are only here for a short time.
Exchanges generally begin with a 2 week trial and are generally 6 months and longer.
If you are interested in applying for an intern position please e-mail us (honaunaufarm@gmail.com) and fill out the application.
